Eating for Fuel, not Flavours

on October 1, 2010

When was the last time you thought about what your body actually wanted to eat?

After a long sleep, a workout, or a hard day of mental thought at the office, what does your body need to fuel back up and give you the energy you need to not only exist, but to thrive?

Foods we often crave can be salty, sweet, sour, hot, cold, liquid, solid…it varies.  But even if your body says “give me something sweet,” is that what it’s really telling you?

Here is an interesting article by Dr. Sears about sugar: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/t045000.asp

What about how we feel about wanting sugar so completely? Can it be an addiction like drugs or alcohol?

A Princeton study shows this about sugar addiction: http://www.princeton.edu/main/news/archive/S22/88/56G31/index.xml?section=topstories

Sugary foods do things to our bodies like raising our blood sugar and insulin levels http://drbenkim.com/articles-bloodsugar.html so why do we continue to eat foods we know we should avoid?

Food for thought…next time you decide to eat or drink something, ask your body what it really wants. It just might tell you!

What are your weak areas when it comes to eating?
